The Sail Pack made by Guardtex is a sail protection system that works with a lazy jack system.

The hudge advantage over a mainsail cover is that it allows you to automatically lower the mainsail into the cover without folding it and while staying in the cockpit. It's much easier and completely safe.

How does it work?

  • The lazy bag, onto which we've sewn a bolt rope along its entire length except where the reef clews are, slides into the boom's groove.
  • The reefing points pass through the cover.
  • It's suspended at the level of the spreaders by lazy jacks attached to the mast.
  • It's reinforced by fiberglass battens with a diameter of 10 or 12 mm, which you may already have or can purchase from a marine supply store. We've provided sleeves into which you'll slide the battens.
  • It closes at the top with a YKK zipper, with a 10 mm plastic teeth width, the slider is also in plastic..

To order, ONLY 6 measurements to take on your boat.
We check their consistency, and manufacture your custom Sail Pack in 3 days.

Remains practical even while sailing

The top part that holds the sail head folds inside the cradle and the sail pack remains closed at the front with the lower quick-release fasteners.

Difference with the Comfort model:

The zipper is sewn on the top of the bag. It opens at the head of the sail You need to be able to reach it with your hand. If the head of the sail is inaccessible, it will be easier for you to use the COMFORT sail pack because the zipper is on the port side.

To read before ordering :

1.a - The sailpack is suitable for a sail with a loose foot, so the boom's groove is free and can receive the sailpack's bolt rope.
The sail pack will have a 2/5 '' (10mm) diameter bolt-rope as standard. If you want a different diameter bolt-rope, please tell us in the comments section X & Y at the end of your order.

If your sail has a bolt rope that is inserted into the boom, then you need to choose from two configurations.

1.b - The sail isn't loose-footed; it's attached to the boom with a bolt rope sewn onto it

When the sail is not loose footed we have to manufacture an other method.

We will make the following modification : the bolt rope usually sewn on the lazybag will be replaced by a PVC strip, allowing you to slide both the PVC strip and the sail's bolt rope into the boom's track simultaneously.

1.c - The sail isn't loose-footed; it's attached to the boom with sliders sewn onto it

Another method is used to attach the sail pack to the boom when sliders are sewn onto the sail instead of a bolt rope.

Therefore, sliders have also been placed on the sail pack. You'll need to attach one slider for the sail, then one for the sail pack, alternating between them.

We need to know the center-to-center distance between two sliders from you as well as a profile photo of the slider

In all cases, we include openings for the reefing lines.

2 - Battens are not provided or sold on our website due to shipping costs. It's more cost-effective to reuse existing battens or purchase them locally. The lazybag is equipped with two sleeves made of Dacron, accepting battens up to 14mm in diameter or flat battens up to 25mm. For boats under 36 feet, a 10mm diameter for the battens is sufficient. A 12mm diameter is suitable for boats up to 45 feet. If larger dimensions are required, please inform us. The batten is secured by a Velcro flap, and the bottom of the sleeve is heavily reinforced to prevent the batten from piercing it.

3 - For attaching the lazyjacks, please indicate their quantity on the measurement form. They are loops made of 25mm thick polyester webbing, sewn onto PVC reinforcement. They provide the connection between the lazybag and lazyjacks with a bowline knot that you will tie.

4 - The attachment system called lazyjack is not included.

5 - The lazybag is made in one piece. While sailing, to prevent the part protecting the head of the sail from flapping in the wind, simply fold the excess fabric inside the bag and close the quick-release fasteners in front of the mast.

6 - Package dimensions: length 20" x width 17" x height 8" - Average weight: 4 to 7kg

What about the price? What measurements? :

  • Price information: Appears on the screen when you choose the boom length - On the measurement form, we ask you to precisely note the distance from the aft mast to the point of attachment to be covered well without exceeding the end of the boom or the attachment point of the topping lift. (value F on the measurement form). Price add per ft over 10ft.
  • Custom-made: Your lazybag is made to order according to the measurements you provide by filling out the measurement form after payment. We check the consistency of the measurements and contact you for any information to verify if needed.

Materials:

Made from high-quality marine canvas Sunbrella or Massacril depending on stock availability.
Resistant to UV rays, saltwater, and harsh weather conditions.
Breathable so the sail can dry even when enclosed in the cover.
Attachment to the boom:
The SailPack is designed to attach directly to the mainsail boom. It has a track at its base to slide into the boom rail.
The sail must be loose-footed, meaning it should not be slid into the boom.

Zipper closure:

The SailPack opens and closes with a YKK #10 marine plastic zipper with a plastic slider. The zipper is located on the top of the SailPack.

Rigidity:

The SailPack is designed to maintain its shape and stay flat against the sail when hoisted. This ensures better aerodynamics and optimal performance.
Battens are not provided or sold on our website due to shipping costs. It is more cost-effective to reuse existing battens or, if you've never had a lazy bag, to purchase them locally. The lazy bag is equipped with 2 Dacron sleeves accepting battens up to 14 mm in diameter and/or flat battens of 25 mm. For boats under 36 feet, a 10mm batten diameter is sufficient. The 12mm diameter is suitable up to 45 feet. If larger dimensions are needed, please let us know. The batten is secured by a Velcro flap, and the bottom of the sleeve is heavily reinforced to prevent the batten from piercing it.
During navigation, to prevent the part protecting the headboard from flapping in the wind, simply fold the excess fabric inside the bag and close the quick-release fasteners in front of the mast.

Suspension:

On each side of the SailPack, attachments are sewn in to tie the lazy jack lines, ensuring effective suspension of the sail when it's lowered. They keep the sail aligned and prevent it from getting tangled.
For attaching the lazy jacks, we ask you to indicate their number in the measurement form. These are sturdy loops made of 25mm thick polyester webbing, sewn onto PVC reinforcement. They secure the connection between the lazy bag and lazy jacks with a knot that you'll tie.
The lazy jack cordage system is not included, so you'll need to purchase locally if your boat doesn't already have it.

Durability:

Thanks to its robust design, the SailPack offers great durability. It consists of 71 pieces because many parts are reinforced.
Customizable Measurements:
The SailPack is custom-made to fit the specific volume of your mainsail.
Measurements should be taken on the installed and folded sail on the boom.
and written on the measurement form that you provide after payment. We check the consistency of the entire set and contact you for any information to verify if necessary.
The measurement of the finished lazy bag will be equal to (length F + 1/2 A) as indicated on your measurement form.
Custom fabrication is guaranteed within 3 days to quickly protect your sail
