It is common to protect the mainsail of a boat, but much less the jib. However, both sails must be protected from UV rays to avoid deterioration.
Ease of use of the Guardtex jib cover
Many boat owners protect their mainsail with a cover, either a mainsail cover or a lazy bag. But very few owners protect the entire genoa with a cover, they just put an anti-UV strip on the jib. However, it is much more efficient and economical to protect the whole sail under a cover. This not only provides better UV protection, but also avoids having to frequently repair or sew a new tape every 3 years.
